Photographic information

Image details.

A few of the photographs on this website were taken using colour transparency film. Mostly I used Fuji Provia 100F, which I found gave me the ability to react to what ever turned up on the day. I also used a body loaded with Fuji Velvia 50 which I liked to use on poor light days and particularly under cover in woods.

The film was processed and mounted by Peak Imaging. I then selected the slides I wanted to use and scanned them on a Dimage Scan Elite 5400 for editing on my computer.

More recently, all my images have been taken using a digital camera. These images are imported into Adobe Lightroom 2 where they are cropped and adjusted as necessary. Then I use the web publishing facility in Lightroom to get the images onto the website.

Camera equipment.

In recent years I have used Canon cameras exclusively. I find that their robust construction favours the tough time I give them. Pictures on film within the website were taken using a Canon T90 and a Canon A1. Now however I use a Canon 1ds mk I with Canon 17-40mm and 70-200mm L series zooms and a Tokina 100mm macro lens.

I use a set of neutral density grads from Lee and a circular polariser.

All of this is supported by a Manfrotto 055pro tripod with a large ball head.

I now work almost entirely digitally, which certainly makes the whole process so much simpler and gives me far greater control over the finished image.

Photographic holidays.

There are now several companies running photographic holidays in this area and all would give an excellent introduction to the Hebrides in the company of a like minded group of people. Two companies that I have personal knowledge of and can highly recommend are Light and Land and Colin Prior.
